RIVER DRAGONS CRUISE TO 6-1 WIN ON VALENTINE'S DAY

COLUMBUS, GA. — The Columbus River Dragons defeated the Baton Rouge Zydeco by a final score of 6–1 on Saturday night at the Columbus Civic Center in Columbus, Georgia.


Trevor Babin was in goal for the River Dragons, while Ed Coffey tended the crease for the visitors.


Scoring began at 5:51 of the second period when Matthew Bazarin found the back of the net from the low slot, pouncing on a loose puck to give Baton Rouge a 1–0 lead.


Columbus responded in dominant fashion. The River Dragons tied the game at 7:23 of the second period on a goal by Alex Storjohann, assisted by Tyler Barrow and Kirk Underwood. 


The club took the lead at 10:36 on a Ryan Hunter power play goal and continued to build momentum throughout the period. Hunter's power-play goal came less than 10-seconds into the man advantage. 


At 15:44 of the second, Jestin Somero added another goal for Columbus, extending the lead to 3–1 before the end of the period. The tally was assisted by Chiwetin Blacksmith and Kyle Moore.


Alexander Jmaeff, Tyler Barrow, and Scott Docherty also scored for the River Dragons before the final horn, securing the commanding 6–1 victory on home ice.


Jmaeff’s goal marked his fifth in the last six games, while Barrow’s 31st of the season moved him into sole possession of first place on the league’s goal scoring leaderboard. Docherty’s goal was his first on home ice this season and his second since returning from the South Carolina Stingrays.


Trevor Babin was outstanding in net for Columbus, stopping 30 of 31 shots. On the other end, Baton Rouge goaltender Ed Coffey made 37 saves on 43 shots in the loss.
