River Dragons Welcome Back Brandon Billie as Director of Scouting

COLUMBUS, GA – The Columbus River Dragons are pleased to announce the return of Brandon Billie as the organization’s Director of Scouting.

Billie is a familiar name within the River Dragons organization, dating back to the club’s inaugural 2019-20 season, when he suited up as a goaltender in Columbus. Billie played professionally from 2014 through 2020, appearing in the FHL, FPHL, ECHL and Sweden before transitioning into hockey operations and scouting.

Billie first joined the River Dragons’ scouting department in 2021 and has played an important role in identifying and bringing talent to Columbus ever since. During his previous tenure, Billie helped uncover several players who went on to make significant contributions to the River Dragons, including Ryan Hunter, Jacob Kelly, Nathan Balkwill, Joel Texmo, Lucas Texmo, Josh Labelle and Michael Greco.

“I am excited to be back home in Columbus and ready to help build on the winning tradition as we pursue another championship,” said Billie.

Billie returns to Columbus with a diverse hockey résumé that extends well beyond scouting. Throughout his career, he has gained experience as a player, coach, general manager, owner, scout and director of hockey operations, giving him a unique perspective when evaluating talent and projecting players to the professional level.

Much of Billie’s current hockey operations work comes through the Greater Metro Hockey League, where he serves as the owner, general manager and head coach of the Wasaga River Dragons. The organization has become an important part of his player-development philosophy, with an emphasis on identifying young talent and preparing players for the next level of their careers.

That connection also provides the River Dragons with another avenue for identifying emerging talent, as Billie continues to work with junior players with professional aspirations. The ultimate goal is to develop players capable of making the jump to the professional game—and, when the opportunity presents itself, bringing those players to Columbus.

Prior to his time with Wasaga, Billie was heavily involved with the Bradford Bulls, further expanding his experience within the GMHL and strengthening his network throughout the junior hockey landscape.

With a combination of professional playing experience, extensive scouting knowledge and a strong presence throughout junior hockey, Billie returns to the River Dragons with a clear objective: find the pieces capable of helping Columbus make another deep postseason run.

The River Dragons are excited to welcome Brandon Billie back to Columbus and look forward to his continued contributions toward building a championship-caliber roster.
