DRAGONS SIGN GOALTENDER DOUGLAS WAKELYN

COLUMBUS, GA – The Columbus River Dragons are pleased to announce the signing of goaltender Douglas Wakelyn, marking the club’s first player signing of the 2026 offseason.

Wakelyn, 25, joins the River Dragons following an outstanding collegiate career in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), where he spent five seasons competing for Western Michigan University, the University of Central Oklahoma, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 185 pounds, the Colorado Springs, Colorado native established himself as one of the premier goaltenders in the ACHA ranks. Across his collegiate career, Wakelyn compiled an impressive 61-11-2 record while posting a 1.93 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage.

Wakelyn also boasts an impressive championship pedigree. During the 2021-22 season, he helped lead the University of Central Oklahoma to an appearance in the ACHA National Championship Game. He later captured an ACHA National Championship with UNLV during the 2024-25 campaign.

His championship season with UNLV was particularly remarkable, as he posted a 9-1-0 record alongside a stellar 1.33 goals-against average and .944 save percentage, playing a pivotal role in the Rebels’ title run.

Prior to his collegiate career, Wakelyn developed through the junior hockey ranks, spending time in the NCDC, USPHL Premier, and NA3HL.

The River Dragons organization is excited to welcome Douglas and looks forward to seeing him make an impact in Columbus during the 2026-27 season.
