The Columbus River Dragons are searching for highly motivated and enthusiastic interns for the 2023-2024 hockey season. Our ideal candidates will demonstrate attention to detail, the ability to multitask, take the initiative to provide solutions and prioritize the consumer experience. Our interns should have a passion for sports and be looking to gain hands-on experience in all of the following areas: Broadcasting, Game Operations, Social Media, and Ticketing. Interns will work closely with our Game Night & Event Operations Manager along with other members of our front office staff to learn, create, and assist with the execution of a top-notch fan experience at all 28 home games.

The Columbus River Dragons are a member of the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL), and were founded in Columbus Georgia in 2019. Since its origin, the team has appeared in playoffs every year, making it to the finals twice, and were named the Champions of the Ignite Cup in 2021.
Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Interns will be expected to attend and work all home games beginning in October and running through April. There are 4 main areas that our interns will be working in, but they will be expected to contribute and participate in all aspects of game nights. Our goal is to expose our team of interns to multiple facets of sports to help provide direction to someone eager to begin a career in the field.
Broadcasting
- Prepare digital assets for playback during the broadcast
- Execute gameday scripts by switching camera feeds, activating team commercials, and controlling graphics on a live feed
- Directing talent and assisting with research
- Monitoring stream health during events
- Other roles and responsibilities may be required
Game Operations
- Provide production and operational support to the Game Night & Event Operations Manager during all home games
- Assist with in-game promotions, intermission activities, ceremonies, performances, on-ice experiences, etc.
- Act as a liaison between the Game Night and event Operations Manager and talent, fans, and honorees for live entertainment features and activities that occur throughout the game
- Responsible for ensuring that all pregame, in-game, and post-game presentation elements are well executed, and occur at the correct time and location
- Find and secure contestants as required, escort talent and guests around the arena
- Other roles and responsibilities may be required
Social Media
- Assist with communications & media presence of the Columbus River Dragons
- Work closely with the Communication Manager and Outbound Marketing Manager to facilitate the growth of digital and social media initiatives
- Capture game, player, fan, and sponsorship content throughout the game to help elevate our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok)
- Continuously update the River Dragons website with any and all relevant content
- Assist with content production and editing for publication and website use
- Strategize with the creative team to develop engaging social media content from concept to execution
- Contribute to social media channels on game days by posting intermission score graphics, game updates, fan interactions, player-player interactions, player-fan interactions, goals, goal saves, fights, etc.
- Capture and post content that incorporates and elevates Theme Nights (Military Night, Halloween, Star Wars, New Year's Eve, Fan Appreciation Night, etc.)
- Assist with gathering content from community events
- Sort event and game night photos
- Other duties as assigned
Ticketing
- Monitor the VIP and group entrances on game nights to interact with ticket holders
- Print and assist with the distribution of will-call tickets on game nights
- Ensure that the organization and delivery of tickets is done in a structured and efficient manner
- Assist with Ticketmaster and be prepared to troubleshoot any problems that occur prior to or during the game
Qualifications:
- 17+ years of age
- This is not a paid internship but may be used for course credit
- Must be able to work games and events (nights, weekends, and holidays)
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds
- Must be able to interact with large crowds
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets
- Experience with Adobe Suite is a plus
